The thought of a crofting life tends to stir up romantic notions of a peace and quiet, living in idyllic, rural countryside location, working the land to earn a crust.
Well, the reality possibly doesn’t always fit the dream and the life of a crofter could well be a tough one. However, this property, newly on the market in Tough, near Alford, will allow you to enjoy many of the home related benefits of crofting you may have dreamed of but in a very contemporary environment.
Originally a crofting property this home, suitably called Torries Croft is undoubtedly traditional in build and structure but it features everything you will need for modern living.
Space is certainly not a problem here, either inside or out, with three large bedrooms, including one with an en-suite and separate dressing room, and situated in around eight acres of land.
The lounge and sitting room both feature wood fired burners and if required, the sitting room could certainly be utilised as a fourth bedroom.
The rest of the ground floor is given over to what is definitely the star of the show and the hub of the home – a stunning open plan kitchen, dining area and lounge, again with a wood burner.
The kitchen has a sumptuous feel, a country style with everything that is needed for the budding gourmet. A range of high end, quality units provide plenty of storage, and the integrated appliances, Belfast sink and central dining island just add to the sense of luxury. Together with the living and dining space this room has been thoughtfully designed and it feels like it was made for socialising and get-togethers.
The three other double bedrooms are located upstairs and are served by a superb, well-appointed family bathroom, and the galleried landing between, which is currently used as a home office, also provides additional space.
However, step outside and you’ll find this is where the rural element of this home really comes into its own. There was mention of eight acres earlier and while that would be pretty healthy for any crofter, there is another, altogether more leisurely activity which is now the focus for this home.
It’s very much horses for courses here, with a full equestrian area at your disposal. Not just a stable block, but a flood lit riding school and paddocks secured with electric fencing. There are also several outbuildings for keeping equipment and hay.
The grounds around the property are fully enclosed and gated with a garden area laid to lawn – the driveway provides ample parking as well as access to the equestrian space.
Tough is around 20 miles from Aberdeen and only a few minutes from the picturesque village of Alford, which is itself within easy travelling distance of both Banchory and Inverurie.
As well a good range of shops, Alford is also home to a health centre, primary and secondary schools, as well as a host of leisure facilities – from an 18 hole golf course, to swimming pool and dry ski slope. The area is very popular with those commuting to Westhill and Dyce and is only around 20 miles from Aberdeen.
This is a stunning home situated in Aberdeenshire’s magnificent rolling hills, and, at offers over £455,000, buying this home should not be a Tough decision!
